Recommended Books on Cancer

I've read and own all of these books on the topic. The titles may be a little goofy in some cases, but I can't recommend these books highly enough!

"Chris Wark is an author, speaker, and health coach. He was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2003 at 26 years old. He had surgery, but instead of chemotherapy, he used nutrition and natural therapies to heal himself. Chris has made many appearances on radio and television and was featured in the award-winning documentary film The C Word. Chris inspires countless people to take control of their health and reverse disease with a radical transformation of diet and lifestyle. You can visit him online at www.chrisbeatcancer.com."

Spikes Take: Of all the books I've read on cancer, this is the book I should have started with. Some absolutely phenomenal advice for anyone who wants to try to take control of their situation. The author, Chris Wark, a colon cancer survivor, thoughtfully lays out a strategy for making concrete diet and lifestyle changes that can augment standard medical treatments. Despite the title, I would recommend this book to everyone!

"The vast majority of premature deaths can be prevented through simple changes in diet and lifestyle. In How Not to Die, Dr. Michael Greger, the internationally-recognized lecturer, physician, and founder of NutritionFacts.org, examines the fifteen top causes of death in America—heart disease, various cancers, diabetes, Parkinson’s, high blood pressure, and more—and explains how nutritional and lifestyle interventions can sometimes trump prescription pills and other pharmaceutical and surgical approaches, freeing us to live healthier lives."

Spikes Take: Despite the sensational title, I recommend that this book be the "Bible" in anyone's quest toward healthy diet and healthy living. This book is way more than a book on cancer and I highly recommend the Introduction and section called "Dr. Gerger's Daily Dozen". Of particular interest to anyone dealing with prostate cancer is chapter 13 "How Not to Die from Prostate Cancer".

"Diagnosed with terminal cancer in the prime of her life, and with no viable treatment options, she used herself as a human guinea pig, putting together a cocktail of low toxicity drugs, not normally used for cancer, alongside a low glycaemic diet and powerful supplements. These ‘starved’ her cancer of glucose, glutamine and fat, which she demonstrates with her ingenious, easy-to-follow ‘McLelland Metro Map’."

Spikes Take: I definitely recommend this book but I focused more on the diet and lifestyle recommendations and less so on the off-cycle drugs that she recommends. Worth reading.

"An important book for all cancer patients. Radical Remission is filled with hope, science and possibilities.
Never before has anyone with Dr. Turner’s credentials dared to research the million dollar question: why do some patients get better from seemingly “incurable” illnesses? Dr. Turner has uncovered the holy grail those who want to optimize their chances for cure have been seeking."
"This book is filled with important information for everyone, whether struggling with cancer or not. She is giving the world a gift at such an important time as so many are feeling like they can’t take their lives into their own hands. Kelly empowers us all to do exactly that."

Spikes Take: I enjoyed reading this book. It was very uplifting and beautifully laid out 9 properties that all of the people the author interviewed had in common and credit with their spontaneous remission from cancer.
